Kathleen
So you’re probably wondering what would induce a nineteen year old to get up in front of you to talk about the pro-life issue.
Well, around the age of 13 I learned what abortion was, and as I thought about it, I began to think, “I am the youngest of six children. What if my parents thought that they already had enough kids?” With a daughter and four sons already; the world thought that they were out of their minds. I realized that since I was born in 1989; they could have easily said, “It’s too hard we have enough kids already.” Honestly, with FOUR sons and a daughter tearing around who would blame them. And that would have been the end of my very short existence.
I am very grateful to have a family that is dedicated to life, but I soon found out that not all children were so lucky. With that realization, I began to think about the things that I loved to do and the things that other children would never have a chance to do. Sing, dance, hang out, breathe, all of the things that I loved to do.
I realized then that I was a survivor and I had a choice to make. At 13 there didn’t seem like much I could do. No job, no car, no drivers license. I had a voice but I didn’t like to use it. I was and still am a bit shy; so I have NO idea what induced me to get up here in front of you. But I realized that I didn’t just have a voice. I had a presence and a life, and I found that that presence alone could help to save lives.
I began volunteering at PPL doing little stuff and staying in the back round as much as possible. Trying to be a witness to what a great gift life is. A witness of hope and joy. I look around tonight and I feel so much hope.
I had a choice. I chose to be a voice for life that will live, and to stand up and be counted among the survivors, in the hope of future generations that will live, and have a future with us in a “culture of life.”
On behalf of the survivors and on behalf of the children who didn’t survive died I want to thank you for your support of the pro-life movement.
Thank You.
